Booking choice: The Civita entry ticket, from $17 per person. Check dates Tour details
Civita is not a museum with a turnstile. It is a hamlet of the comune of Bagnoregio, in the province of Viterbo, and since June 2013 the town has charged visitors to cross the bridge. The money pays for the upkeep of the bridge, the lanes and the slopes that keep sliding into the valley. Wikipedia notes that the town abolished some local taxes on the back of it.
Everything below comes from the town's own ticket information page, checked on 10 October 2026, plus the GetYourGuide and Viator listings on the same day. Where other sources disagree with the official page, we follow the official page and say so.
The quick answer
A ticket costs €5 per person, online or at the ticket office, every day of the week. Children under 6, people with a 100% disability card and one companion, Bagnoregio residents and guests staying inside Civita go in free. There is no €3 rate any more.

How much does it cost to enter Civita di Bagnoregio in 2026?
€5 per person, the same online and at the ticket office, on weekdays, weekends and holidays.
The town's page puts it in one line: the ticket costs €5 and the price is the same whether you buy it online or at the office. There is no student, senior or family price. Everyone from age 6 pays the same.
The free list is longer than most visitors expect. It covers children under 6 (bring ID), people with a 100% disability card and one companion, residents of Bagnoregio and their close family, students and teachers of Bagnoregio schools, one adult for every ten paying pupils on a school trip, licensed tour guides working with a group and their interpreters, registered journalists with a press card, and anyone staying in a B&B, holiday home or private house inside Civita.
That last rule is a good reason to sleep in the village. A couple staying two nights saves only €10, but they also get the lanes after the day groups have gone.

Is there still a €3 reduced ticket?
No. The €3 weekday price was dropped; the official page lists only €5 and the free categories.
You will still see €3 on travel blogs and on some info sites, usually as "€3 on weekdays, €5 at weekends", and sometimes as a €3 rate for children or over-65s. That was the old pricing. Wikipedia's history of the toll explains where it comes from: it started in 2013 at €1.50, and in August 2017 it went up to €3 on weekdays and €5 on Sundays and holidays.
Today's official page has no reduced price at all. It names one price, €5, and a list of people who pay nothing. If a site quotes €3, it was written before the change or copied from one that was. Budget €5 per person and you will not be caught short at the window.
| Period | Weekday | Weekend and holidays | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| June 2013 | €1.50 | €1.50 | Wikipedia |
| From August 2017 | €3 | €5 | Wikipedia |
| 2026 | €5 | €5 | civitadibagnoregio.cloud |
| Reduced for children or over-65s | None | None | Official page lists free categories only |
Where do you buy the Civita ticket?
Online on the town's ticket site, in the free Civita di Bagnoregio app, or at one of two ticket offices.
The town sells tickets at civitadibagnoregio.cloud/ticket.php and through its free app, called Civita di Bagnoregio, in Italian and English, with GPS directions and lists of parking, restaurants and B&Bs. Buying ahead costs nothing extra and lets you walk past the queue at the window, which on a Sunday in May can be long.
The two ticket offices take turns. The one at Piazzale Battaglini, the big car park at the entrance to Bagnoregio, opens on busy days: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and any other day the town expects crowds. On quieter days only the Mercatello office near the bridge is open. The town recommends parking at Piazzale Battaglini and then walking about 15 minutes to the village, or taking the shuttle to the Belvedere.
Ticket support answers every day from 8:00 to 20:00 on +39 324 866 0940, or by email at [email protected]. The getting there guide covers the car parks and the shuttle.
| Where | When | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Online, civitadibagnoregio.cloud/ticket.php | Any time | €5, show it on your phone |
| Civita di Bagnoregio app | Any time | Free app, Italian and English |
| Ticket office, Piazzale Battaglini | Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, busy days | Next to the main car park and the shuttle stop |
| Ticket office, Mercatello (by the bridge) | Other days | The only one open on quiet weekdays |
| Phone and email support | Daily 8:00 to 20:00 | +39 324 866 0940 |
Do you need a ticket at all hours?
Only during the staffed hours, from 8:00 to 20:00. Before and after, the bridge is open and nobody checks.
The official page does not print an hour range for the ticket. Its support line runs 8:00 to 20:00, and that is the window locals and longer guides describe: the fee applies from 8:00 to 20:00, and anyone crossing before 8:00 or after 20:00 walks in free. The Mercatello info point keeps the same 8:00 to 20:00 hours.
Treat the evening as a gift, not a plan. The lanes are lit and the views at dusk are the best of the day. But Civita is not a theme park that closes: people live there, and after dark the bridge has the same steep last stretch with less light. Bring a torch in winter.
Our view: an evening visit is the best free thing in the area, and the right move if you have a car and stay nearby. For a day trip from Rome it is irrelevant, because every tour arrives in daylight. The best time guide goes through the hours of the day.
Is the GetYourGuide ticket worth $17?
Only if you want the audio guide. The ticket itself is the same €5 entry the town sells for about $6.
The Civita entry ticket on GetYourGuide costs $17 and is sold as a skip-the-line pass with an optional audio guide, meeting at Piazza Alberto Ricci by the Belvedere in Bagnoregio. It has four reviews and a 4.8 rating. Kelly, in October 2026, wrote: "The walk to/from is not that difficult. And when you're in the city go visit the caves for 1 euro!"
Be clear about what the extra $11 buys. The entry is the town's €5 ticket. The rest pays for the reseller's booking and the audio guide. The town's own partner sells a similar audio product, the Civita di Bagnoregio Travel Card, at €12 for a private audio tour of about 90 minutes plus a welcome kit and local discounts; that one does not include entry, so the total is €17.
For most people the best buy is the €5 ticket from the town and a guidebook on the phone. Pay more only for something a person adds: the private walking tour ($203 for one adult) puts a local guide in front of you for three hours.
| Option | Price | Includes entry? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Town ticket, online or office | €5 | Yes | Almost everyone |
| Town ticket + Travel Card audio tour | €5 + €12 | Card does not include it | Self-guided visitors who want commentary |
| GetYourGuide ticket with audio guide | $17 | Yes | Booking everything on one app |
| Private walking tour | $203 for 1 adult | Yes | A local guide, just your group |
| Tours from Rome | From $99 | Depends on the tour | See the next section |

Entry to Civita with an optional audio guide, cancellable up to 24 hours before. The town's own ticket is €5.
Check dates Tour detailsDo tours from Rome include the €5 ticket?
Some do. The Tuscany day trip, the Villa Lante trip and the cruise tour include it; the private driver does not.
Check this before comparing prices. A $99 tour that includes entry and the shuttle is cheaper than it looks against one that does not. The Tour Guy's Civita and Tuscany day trip lists entry and the shuttle bus. The Civita and Villa Lante trip includes both entry tickets. The Civitavecchia shore tour includes Civita and the Monster Park.
The private tour from Rome is a car and driver: its itinerary says admission is not included, so add €5 a head. The GetYourGuide Assisi, Civita and Orvieto tour lists entrance fees in a block that mixes inclusions and exclusions; the listing says the visit to the Basilica of St Francis is not included, so confirm Civita on your voucher too. City Wonders' Civita and Orvieto day trip lists the coach, the guide, lunch and wines but does not name the Civita ticket on its own page, so read the voucher too.
| Tour | From | Civita ticket | Shuttle in Bagnoregio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Civita and Tuscany (The Tour Guy) | $99 | Included | Included |
| Civita and Orvieto (City Wonders) | $107 | Check voucher | Not listed |
| Assisi, Civita and Orvieto | $110 | Check voucher | Not listed |
| Civita and Villa Lante | $134 | Included | Minivan |
| From Civitavecchia port | $241 | Included | Private vehicle |
| Private driver from Rome | $414 per group | Not included (+€5 each) | Driver drops you close |
What else costs money once you are inside?
Not much: a small geology museum, a private cave or two, coffee and lunch. The church and the lanes are free.
The church of San Donato on the main square is free, and the lanes, the viewpoints and the Porta Santa Maria cost nothing either. The Museo Geologico e delle Frane in Palazzo Alemanni charges about €3 and keeps short hours outside summer: from September to May it opens Friday to Sunday only. The what to see guide has its timetable.
Several houses open their old cellars and Etruscan caves to visitors for a coin or two; guests mention paying €1. Outside the village, budget for parking in Bagnoregio (roughly €1.50 to €2 an hour, depending on the car park) and €1 for the shuttle between Piazzale Battaglini and the Belvedere. A family of four over the age of 6 spends €20 on tickets, about €2 on the shuttle each way, and a few euros on parking.
